First SuperEnalotto Jackpot Win
SuperEnalotto launched on Wednesday 3rd December 1997, when it took over from the old Enalotto game. Whereas the outgoing lottery used a football pools-style system for predicting the range from which the winning numbers would come, SuperEnalotto required players to pick six numbers from 90, matching all six to win the jackpot.
The new game was an instant hit and sales grew a staggering 1,000% in the months following the launch. Fans only had to wait a little over a month for the first jackpot win, when the group from a town boasting just 5,000 inhabitants claimed 11.8 billion lira (around €6 million).
The winners clubbed together to play a 300,000 lira (€150) system entry, but only one of them ever went public with their success. Alfonso Comini admitted in the years after the win that he had been part of the SuperEnalotto syndicate, and the new owners of what was the Pergola bar, where the winning ticket was sold, say that he still plays SuperEnalotto with them to this day.
Ten Years Later
As fortune would have it, ten years later to the day, there was another SuperEnalotto jackpot win, when a player from Ospedaletto d'Alpinolo (Avellino) picked up €33.5 million on 17th January 2008. As there is no draw on Wednesday 17th January 2018, the feat will not be repeated, but it could spell success for one lucky SiVinceTutto player.
