Historic SuperEnalotto Jackpot Winner Finally Picks up Prize

The winner of October 2016’s SuperEnalotto jackpot will finally receive their gigantic prize today, three months after making Italian lottery history.

Following more than a year of consecutive rollovers, there was cause for much celebration on the evening of Thursday 27th October when a single ticket-holder won a massive €165.5 million by not just claiming the SuperEnalotto jackpot but by also matching the SuperStar to boost their prize even further.

Despite having beaten odds of 1 in 56 billion, however, weeks after the draw there was still no sign of the long-awaited winner, prompting a nationwide search and numerous unsubstantiated rumours as the clock ticked down to the ticket’s expiration date.

Thankfully, late in the day yesterday, SuperEnalotto operator Sisal announced that the mammoth prize had not, as many had feared, expired but would be paid out to the lucky winner today, 27th January. The player reportedly came forward in November last year to complete the required paperwork and had begun the process of making the money theirs, but with a handover date not decided the operator had remained tight-lipped until now.

Although the identity of the jackpot winner remains a complete mystery to this day, SuperEnalotto players will no doubt feel a tremendous sense of relief that the jackpot winner has been found and will receive their truly life-changing prize — though not, presumably, as much as the player themselves will feel when the vast sum of money finally arrives in their bank account.

This Saturday’s SuperEnalotto jackpot currently stands at an estimated €81.1 million, but following all the excitement around the lottery’s recent jackpot winner, there’s a good chance the final prize fund will be even larger. Could you be SuperEnalotto’s next big winner?
