It has been almost 18 months since the last time the jackpot was won. It passed the €100 million mark in October 2021, €200 million in early May, and a few weeks later it became the biggest-ever SuperEnaloto jackpot.
The previous record had stood at €209 million, and went to a player from Lodi in Lombardy.
There have been thousands of prizes won in every draw for the past six months, and some players have come tantalisingly close to winning the record jackpot, but nobody has managed to match all six SuperEnalotto numbers.
Among the big recent winners, a player from Padua won €833,305 on 25th October after matching five numbers plus the SuperStar.
One of the World’s Biggest Jackpots
The jackpot ranks as the biggest lottery prize ever offered in Europe, comfortably surpassing the €230 million EuroMillions record.
The only jackpots that have been larger have been those found in American multi-state games such as Powerball and Mega Millions, where the advertised prize is an annuity value rather than the lump sum amount.
The current Powerball jackpot, for example, is advertised at $1.5 billion, but the cash value is $745.9 million (approximately €765 million). U.S. lottery prizes are also subject to a far higher rate of tax than in Italy, where it is 20% on prizes above €500.
It is possible that the SuperEnalotto jackpot could keep rising for some time yet, as there is no limit on how high it can go. Draws are held every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and you can play online or by visiting an authorised retailer in Italy.
